Zac: 23 year old Graphic Design major

I…I don’t really know what to say about this outfit because technically speaking, I know nothing about cosplay. But I figured hey, what the hell? Fanime is going on so this should be a nice treat for all you ner- folks out there.

For those of you who don’t know who Zac is dressed up as, he’s Sora from Kingdom Hearts. When you a make side-by-side comparison between Zac and Sora, the colors are actually pretty accurate. The hair ain’t so bad and the keyblade is pretty sick! YOU GO GLEN COCO! (why I am quoting Mean Girls, I don’t know…blame it on Justine.)

What’s your favorite part about your outfit and why?

Probably my keyblade. I made it in High School and it’s 9 lbs of pure steel.

Kyle: 19 year old Biology major

So as I was going on a last minute photo taking spree, I saw kyle “chillin” on the sidewalk. He definitely fit his clothes. At first I was like, “meh, it’s just a shirt and jeans. Big deal!” Upon further investigation, I tried checking out his outfit without looking like I was checking him out.

I mean…LOOK at it! That shirt is cut very slim and very short, but it has a very very cool contrast with his jeans. The jeans (Diesel) are tapered in the middle and have a nice flare towards the end. It’s very Megaman-esque. Not only that but the colors of his outfit relate: white shoes, white bag, white collar/cuff. Oh, and in case you’re feeling a bit of pitty for his simplistic outfit, don’t. You can’t see because his shirt is in the way but that belt buckle of his? It’s DG (Dolce and Gabana, not D&G. D&G is the lower end brand of Dolce and Gabana) Yes, my Asian brother is ballin :o)

What’s your favorite part about your outfit and why?

My Diesel jeans. I always go back to Diesel because their jeans fit the best!

Miris: 21 year old Statistics major

Once again, I am dissatisfied with this picture. Actually, I love the outfit. What I’m unhappy with is the fact that Miris is a GORGEOUS girl and this picture does NOT do her justice. It’s like taking a picture of the Mona Lisa with your cell phone camera – it’s not the same! In person, her smile is really really ridiculously good looking.

But in terms of fashion and style, this is a pretty cool outfit. It’s very Agyness Deyn (if she were Asian). I like how frail her pose is in relation to the edginess of her jacket, shoes, and her bag that looks a lot like Cloyster. On one hand you have dark black, silver, and hard stripes. But when you look at her right arm and that little smirk on her face, it feels very disarming. I kinda like it. Besides… her name is Miris! How cool is that?!

What’s your favorite part about your outfit and why?

Oh, I like this jacket. No wait, I like the shoes. No no! I like them both! haha!

Carol: 21 year old ESL student

I‘m not sure why, but I’m sitting here, looking at this outfit, and I just can’t get myself to say “wow, this was an amazing outfit!” Honestly, I think that having it as a photograph doesn’t do it justice. In person, her top was flowy and it moved and curved into the wind with such grace. But this… this just doesn’t do!

But of course, isn’t that true with many photographed things? I mean sure, I can stare at photographs of bacon but nothing compares to eating it, right? Hmmm…maybe that wasn’t such a good analogy… ANYWAYS! I like the color of the top. If you’ve ever seen food coloring, juice, milk, or even blood from a bleeding nose drip into a sink of clear water, you see this diffusion of color. Basically this top is a sophisticated version of tie-dye – she also has a really nice watch which matches well with the colors on top.

I‘d like to imagine (because I’m so frustrated at how this picture doesn’t suffice her outfit) that this top was once created in a giant underground water temple. And as the sea goddesses did their chant, they all dropped herbs and plants and tears into the water, creating this wonderful top.

I really need to stop playing video games….

What’s your favorite part about your outfit and where did you get it?

When I went to London, I saw this top with all the jewels and colors and thought “wow”

Lesley: 21 year old Economics major

Awww…Lesley :) While I was taking her picture, she had this gigantic smile as she kept saying “Oh my gosh, I can’t believe you took my picture! I would have never guessed you would pick me!” It was incredibly cute and I was totally in love with her bubbly attitude. That aside, lets talk fashion.

Everyone, quick! High five Lesley for using gradient colors! YAY! For those of you who don’t know what that means, gradient outfits are when you have a dark color on one side, and as you move towards the other side of the body (in this case, from her toes to her head) the pieces of her outfit get lighter and lighter. The effect is that it elongates your body and makes for a much more pleasing color combo.

And DUDE! Look at that fuckin jacket, yo! It’s cut PERFECTLY on her wrist, with a bit of sleeve showing, and the bottom of the coat is cut at the right spot, exposing just enough leg and boot. This is a great coat: the color suits her well, the print is simple and it matches her hair. Oh, oh! And look! Red lipstick done correctly! Hooray for Lesley the cutie pie :)

What’s your favorite part about your outfit?

My coat – I bought it my first semester at Wellesley college back east – so it’s my first coat.

Courtney: 19 year old Kinesiology major

To be honest, this outfit, this specific outfit, is one that I’ve seen a million times on a million different girls. I’ve seen it in the mall, on the streets, and on campus. So why exactly did I shoot this? Why did I take her picture? Yes, she’s obviously a very pretty girl but it was her confidence and conviction that I photographed.

I remember it clearly: I was turning around and I saw Courtney saunter into my field of vision. It was like life had been put into slow motion and I was fixated on her. For a split second or less, I even felt as if I were looking at a woman who had been sent from the 1960’s. It’s purple. It’s black. It’s gold. It’s great.

Though it is covered from head to toe, you can really tell that she’s wearing this outfit – and it’s sexy. It has molded itself into her body, flowing with every bend and curve. It was pretty funny because as I was taking pictures, I noticed that the first several were more or less okay. But then I shot from a different angle and just as I bent down to take the shot, a gust of wind came from behind her and I felt like I was in a studio with lights and fans blowing her hair around. It was awesome.

So Courtney, if you’re reading this (which I hope you are), I don’t love this outfit – I love this outfit on you.

What’s your favorite part about your outfit and why?

My shoes, definitely. Why? Well… what girl doesn’t like shoes?

Gabrielle: 18 year old Animal Science major

While I was walking around searching for well dressed girls on campus, I saw Gabrielle head towards the library. I was too lazy to chase after her so I let her pass. Ten minutes later, she walked out and took a seat on a bench near me. I approached her and asked if I could take her picture for the school newspaper.

Her: Uh..uh…I actually don’t go here. I’m waiting for my friend.
Me: Oh…ok. Sorry about that. Thanks anyways!

As I started to walk away I wondered if it really mattered. Will anyone really care if she’s a student? She’s here isn’t she? Fuck it! Take that picture!

Me: Ya know what? It’s fine! I’d still like to take your picture!

This girl was an absolutely adorable cutey pie. I’m in love with this picture! Notice Gabrielle biting her lower lip. Notice the slighty 80’s pink sweater. Notice the the skirt hanging down from beneath the pink sweater. There’s a lot of thought in this look. The necklace, the shoes, the attitude. It’s almost like she’s this ballerina wandering around a college campus, waiting for her parents to pick her up.

As she wrote down her information on my writing pad, she noticed I had 2PM lyrics (a Korean band) written all over the top portion of my paper. “2pm?” she asked. “Haha yes” I replied in an embarrassed tone. She was Korean so I felt like her questioning was more of a “You listen to 2PM?”

What’s your favorite part about your outfit?

*She looks down at her top and pinches at the fabric* I really like this top. I bought it when I was in Korea and thought it was so pretty

Nikita: 19 year old International Business major

When I first approached Nikita to ask if I could take his picture, I felt like I was talking to one of those stereotypical Russians in those action movies. ” ….I was wondering if I could take a picture of your outfit for the newspaper.”

He hesitated and said “Uh….yayz…yayz!”

As I look back at the pictures now, I realize that maybe I overhyped his outfit at the beginning – it’s probably because he was so tall. But that’s not to say that it’s a bad outfit. In fact, I really do like it. But it was his shoes that I went bananas for (and yes, I was incredibly jealous). “Your shoes! They’re really nice! Where did you get em?”

Him: Eez Moos-kee-noe
Me: Mooz-kee-no? How do you spell it?
Him: M-O-S-C
Me: OOH!! Moschino!

Apparently I’m an idiot because I’ve been calling it “Moh-sheen-o” this whole time! His shoes fit well, they were shiny, and they cost him $250 dollars. Every part of his outfit was cut well including his haircut (which was so blonde that in my other pictures, the sun was washing it out completely).

What’s your favorite part about your outfit?

My shooz – no no! I change my mind: My headphones. They are from Dr. Dre

Asha: 24 year old Entrepreneur

I know what some of you are thinking: Monsieur Falco! Who is this..this…BRONZE beauty?! And the answer is: I have no idea. I saw Asha walking around and decided to snap a photo of her outfit. There was something about it that I really liked.

For starters, she’s wearing two fist fulls of black. Black top, black boots, and a black scarf (not to mention her dark hair). But what I am absolutely in love with is the fact that she used that scarf  (or shawl) in such a asymmetrical way. Usually, people put on scarves and tie it around themselves with little effort. In return, it ends up looking like some cotton pretzel that serves no visual purpose. But Asha knew what she was doing.

She also used silver rings and a silver necklace (which you can barely see under the shawl) which added a nice contrast to the harsh black. Good color, good contrast, good asymmetry, and it all works well with her rich skin tone. It just goes to show you: you don’t have to be in a punk band or have cuts across your arms to wear black (properly) – you just need to be Asha.

What is your favorite part about your outfit?

My elephant ring! I bought this when I decided to marry myself.

Jessica: 20 year old Bioscience Major

Confession: The lady you’re looking at is Jessica aka “a girl I used to like back in sophomore year in High School”. But old crushes aside, she’s got style. In general, I fucking HATE those nasty ass forever 21 girls who run into the store and come out looking like BRATZ dolls. Despite the fact that Jessica is wearing forever 21, she wears it correctly.

The proportions of the dress and the print are amazing on her. But what’s most interesting is the fact that usually the only time you see printed flowers on dresses is on grandma and her dining table cloth. But once again, Jessica manages to rock the shit out of that dress. Hell, even I wanna wear it….sike…

Ok, back to styling: look at the waistline of her dress. Do you see that flap of fabric hanging off to her right? Sure, it might be a minor fashion faux pas but AHA! If you look at the hair cascading down her bust, the bottom of her hair is hanging off to the side and it almost feels as if her hair is pushing down on the dress, causing that overlap of fabric. Pretty cool huh? :)

What’s your favorite part about your outfit and why?

Well, I’m a summer kind of girl and I like pretty dresses – so I bought it.
